Cycling HCMC to Hoi An - Coastal Back Roads

In the early morning, enjoy a peaceful walk along the riverbanks, where you may spot a variety of wildlife and bird species such as kingfishers, Black-collared Hawks, and capped Herons. Breathe in the fresh jungle air, listen to the sounds of nature, and gain insight into the rich biodiversity of Nam Cat Tien National Park.

After breakfast, begin a half-day cycling adventure through the forest trails of Nam Cat Tien. Ride along shaded jungle paths, cross shallow streams toward Dak Lua, and stop along the way to admire giant ancient trees while learning more about the park’s unique flora and fauna. Continue cycling through sub-tropical forests, semi-evergreen woodlands, and wetland areas before reaching the local farmlands around Dak Lua.

Visit the fascinating Cat Tien Archaeological Site, an important historical and cultural site dating back to the ancient Funan civilization. After exploring the site, board a shuttle vehicle for a scenic transfer to Da Lat, with lunch served en route.

Commence with an hour vehicle transfer to Bidoup National Park, northeast of Dalat, for a whole day of cycling adventure. You cycle on a new road, rolling hills, pine forests, green farmlands, and on the winding road through the tropical rainforest. The ride lets you undulate through lush farmlands and admire the romantic landscape and comfortable climate. Some hills are real challenges for you, with beautiful valleys surrounding and numerous tropical forests. 

One of the most exciting mountain challenge lovers is the last hills to the top as you conquer the mountain top of Khanh Le (called Hon Giao) it's a short way. It's just a few km, a short distance but a little vertical. No worry because the support vehicles are always on standby and near you. Khanh Le mountain top is about 1500m above sea level, where you enjoy central Vietnam's most spectacular mountain scenery. This is your limitless opportunity for stoppings, to admire valleys and waterfalls with lush rainforest. Enjoy more snacks, cold drinks, and fresh fruits before riding downhill for 29 km. It's a fabulous ride of the day, and you have a delicious lunch at the local restaurant by the River, right at the foot of the pass.

The ride in the afternoon is entirely different from the morning's adventures. We venture to explore hamlets, meet locals in sugar cane and rice paddy farmlands, enjoy the beautiful countryside of Khanh Vinh, and stop at the local market for coffee, snacks, and fresh fruits. Then we will continue biking to the ancient Dien Khanh citadel before you have a short transfer to Nha Trang in the late afternoon.

Leave Nha Trang at 7:30 am for a one-hour transfer to Van Ninh, a small fishing township. Start cycling from Van Gia along the coastal road through quiet villages, passing colorful fishing boats, tiny ports, and peaceful seaside scenery. Ride through rural backroads lined with rice paddies, local markets, and schools where children wave as you pass. Stop at a vibrant local market to experience daily life and sample fresh tropical fruits.

Continue deeper into the countryside through fish farms, orchards, and dirt tracks toward Co Ma Mountain. The climb is short but rewarding, offering panoramic views over Dai Lanh Beach before lunch at a beachside restaurant.

After lunch, enjoy a one-hour vehicle transfer to avoid the afternoon heat, then continue cycling through rustic villages and beautiful lagoon-side paths. Ride past fishing sampans, lush farmland, rice fields, and quiet fishing hamlets before crossing a wooden bridge to Highway 1A, where a final transfer takes you to Quy Nhon.

We begin the day with a 20-minute vehicle transfer out of the city, crossing Thi Nai Bridge—the longest sea bridge in Vietnam. After picking up the bikes, ride along beautiful lagoons, sand dunes, and scenic coastal roads dotted with colorful temples, pagodas, and tiny villages. Follow narrow concrete paths through farmlands and fishing communities to the coast, stopping for ocean views by the giant Buddha statue near the mountain cemetery.

Continue cycling along sandy beaches, rolling hills, and lush farmland, with breaks for coffee, fruit, and photos in local villages. Ride through rustic fishing communities, salt fields, shrimp farms, and peaceful lagoons while learning about rural life and fish farming. Enjoy lunch at a small seaside village before continuing along authentic coastal backroads lined with fishing boats and coconut plantations. The final section offers more countryside scenery, friendly locals, and gentle hills before reaching Tam Quan, where a short 20-minute transfer takes you to the hotel.

After breakfast, a 20-minute transfer takes you to An Khe Lagoon for a full-day cycling adventure, with a quick stop at beautiful salt fields for photos before the ride. Cycle through small coastal hamlets, quiet countryside, local markets, rice paddies, and peaceful fishing villages along smooth concrete and small asphalt roads. Ride beside rivers, vegetable fields, fish farms, and lush agricultural lands, crossing ferries and small rural bridges along the way. Stop at pagodas, old houses shaded by betel trees, and irrigation bridges overlooking tranquil rivers and charming villages. 

Continue across Co Luy Bridge over the Tra Khuc River and follow quiet backroads to the Som My Memorial – My Lai Massacre site of 1968. After lunch in a small town, keep riding along ocean and river paths to Sa Ky fishing port for endless photo opportunities. Leave the bikes at a café and take a short walk to experience the daily life of local fishing villagers before a final ferry crossing and ride through charming rural villages to Binh Son township.

An early departure from the hotel at 7:30 am as we pick up the best route for the day. The day will begin at the hotel, ride out of Binh Son town, follow the coastal back roads, pass Chu Lai Airport quiet back road, get through a small town, then green rice fields, and follow the concrete routes through several vibrant villages, and kindergartens and high schools until we reach the fishing village. Enjoy a ferry boat to Tam Hai Island, then carry on the ride across this Island. We can see wooden ships in many colors on a ferry crossing river. Most locals here live mainly on fishing and seafood farming. The Island is small, but it is worth for us to explore. Westerners rarely see this Island. We take another ferry to the mainland, enjoying the dirt road biking along the Truong Giang River. 

The River and its branches offer terrific views of bamboo boats, wooden boats, and small fishing villages. The family members are very busy when fishing boats return. Fishermen's wives help them hang the fish on nets to dry some, primarily for sales. We have lunch in Tam Thanh- a local beach. In the afternoon, we spend more time exploring the lush farmland and rice paddies and less time on coastal fishing routes. It's also a terrific chance to see many un-modernized villages; thatch houses buffaloes on rice fields, bamboo bridges, and remote villages. There will be many stops at historical sites and colorful pagodas. We end up the trip Cua Dai Bridge with a quick transfer to the hotel.
