Food, drinks & refreshment stops
Complimentary water, snacks & fruit
Before each cycling journey begins, our bike guides carefully prepare daily essentials, including chilled mineral water, healthy snacks, and fresh seasonal fruits. These items are thoughtfully selected to keep you energized and refreshed throughout the ride.
Mineral water is kept cool in the support vehicles, while snacks and fruits are readily available at every scheduled stop. At each rest point, your water bottle will be refilled to ensure you remain well hydrated throughout the day.
As we travel along scenic countryside routes, support vehicles may occasionally be unable to follow due to narrow roads or restricted paths. In these situations, our bike guides will stop at local markets or small roadside shops to replenish supplies of water, snacks, and fresh fruit. This ensures that you always have access to the refreshments you need, no matter where the journey takes you.
Dining Flexibility: What to expect on your journeys
At Vietnam Backroads, we strive to provide a seamless and enjoyable travel experience, including thoughtfully planned meals that complement your cycling routes and destinations. To help you better understand our dining arrangements, here’s why some dinners are included while others are left open, and how we ensure you enjoy excellent culinary experiences throughout your journey.
Where dinners are included
1. Small-town or countryside stays
When staying in small towns or remote countryside areas where quality restaurants or evening entertainment options are limited, we arrange dinner for you. These meals often feature exceptional local cuisine, giving you the opportunity to experience the authentic flavors of the region.
2. Family dinners in local homes
In some rural areas, you may enjoy a unique and heartwarming family-style dinner with local hosts. Prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, these meals showcase traditional regional cooking. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local community and immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of the area.
3. In small towns & non-touristy destinations
When traveling to off-the-beaten-path destinations where quality dining options are unavailable, we ensure that your dinner is thoughtfully prepared and included as part of your journey.
Why some dinners are not included
In certain remote or countryside locations, safe and high-quality dining options may be limited. To provide greater flexibility, we leave dinner arrangements open in these cases, allowing you to choose meals based on your personal preferences. This also gives you the opportunity to explore local restaurants and sample regional specialties at your own pace.
Why dinners are not included in popular tourist cities
At Vietnam Backroads, we believe in giving you the freedom to enjoy your evenings and explore the vibrant dining and cultural scenes of the destinations you visit. That’s why dinners are not included in popular tourist cities, allowing your journey to remain flexible, engaging, and tailored to your personal preferences.
1. Opportunity to explore
After an active day of cycling, you deserve the chance to discover the town or city at your own pace. Wander through lively streets, uncover hidden gems, and savor local specialties at a restaurant or street-food stall that appeals to you.
2. Enriching free Time
Throughout the day, our cycling guides share fascinating insights into local history, culture, and daily life. In the evening, you’ll have the freedom to connect with the destination on your own, soak up the atmosphere, and choose dining experiences that best match your interests and tastes.
By leaving your evenings open, we encourage authentic experiences and memorable discoveries that go beyond a planned itinerary.
3. Lunch Arrangements
Depending on the route, lunch may be enjoyed as a sit-down meal at an excellent local restaurant or as a picnic thoughtfully prepared by your tour leader and biking guides. In areas with limited dining options, picnic lunches are arranged in advance and include fresh, safe, and satisfying food to keep you energized throughout the ride. Your tour leader will provide details the day before, ensuring you are always informed and well prepared.
This flexible dining approach ensures that your meals are safe, enjoyable, and well suited to the unique experiences of each cycling route. With Vietnam Backroads, your dining needs are always thoughtfully taken care of.
Important Reminder: avoid local drinks with unpurified ice
During your cycling journey with Vietnam Cycling Tours, much of your time will be spent exploring rural areas and villages, where access to purified water and ice may be limited. To help ensure your health and safety, please follow these important guidelines regarding beverages served with ice.
1. Avoid drinks with unpurified ice
In many rural areas, ice may be made from untreated or unpurified water, which can pose health risks. At countryside stops, please avoid local drinks served with ice unless you are certain that the ice has been purified and is safe for consumption.
2. Our commitment to your safety
Your tour leaders are trained to assess the quality of water and ice at each stop. If purified ice is available, they will inform you so that you can enjoy your drink with confidence. To stay properly hydrated, always carry bottled water or beverages provided by the tour team.
3. Best practices for hydration
Whenever possible, choose bottled or filtered beverages during your trip. Refill your water bottles only from trusted sources recommended by your tour leaders. When in doubt, it is safest to avoid ice altogether.
By following these simple precautions, you can enjoy a healthy, safe, and worry-free cycling adventure.
