Cycling With Tam Hanks Group
Please note: This is a suggested itinerary. We are quite flexible: you may create an itinerary according to your own interests. Just tell us your travel plans according to your scheduled, we will be more than happy to assist you with this and work with you to make your trip with The Tam Hanks Group an enjoyable and memorable one!.
Day 1
- Transfer from either HCM city or Nha Trang City into the Highlands in our comfortable, air-conditioned van, reaching Di Linh via Bao Loc, the tea capital of Viet Nam. We will have lunch at a temple in Bao Loc, then cycle through rolling tea plantation country with 1 downhill pass. Sleep in a nice guesthouse in Di Linh District.
Day 2
- To Li Liang (Gung Re) Waterfalls( 17-km away) in the morning. Enjoy the only waterfall that is visited by very few travelers. Then, return to Di Linh for lunch, with two downhill sections. After lunch, Go 76 km. to Da Lat (cycling as much or as little as you like). There is a Short descent into the town from the top of the pass. Da Lat is a beautiful city, set in the hills, with coolest climate in all of Southern Vietnam. Sleep at a quiet hotel in Da Lat.
Day 3
- Leaving early. We will climb 1,600 m (again, cycle or ride in van!) then enjoy the terrific double descent to the Song Pha Valley. Cool pine covered mountains quickly turn into semi-desert country, from which we will to the coast. During the SW monsoon from May to November, there are very strong headwinds here and we will take the bus to the coast. Sleep in cottages which are just a step way from the beach in Ca Na.
Day 4
- From Ca Na to Mekong Delta town of Cao Lanh(500-km),once again using the van due to heavy traffic on Highway 1. We will eat banh xeo, a delicious yellow crepe made with egg and rice flour with minced meat and vegetables and tasty herbs inside, some of which are only grown in the Delta region. Sleep in a hotel in Cao Lanh.
Day 5
- In the morning Visit Xeo Quit, a re-creation of National Liberation Front (NLF) HQ during the war. In the afternoon - transfer to the charming river town of Hong Ngu. We will take the Voi Lua ferry and cycle to Hong Ngu via the Holy Religious See of the Hoa Hao Buddhist sect, crossing the rivers 3 times. enjoy an evening out door after our delicious Delta food super. Sleep in Hong Ngu.
Day 6
- Visit Long Khanh Island, a small island (12-km circumfernce) in the Mekong River.It is very rustic and beautiful. We can cycle or go by bicycle-pulled carriage. The people are fantastic. Nice pagodas, both Cao Dai sect and a very old Vietnamese Buddist temple. Then the van will transfer us to another T-junction to cycle to Cho MOi via Tay island. Due to the small ferry, the van can not go along with us. The van will meet us at Cho Moi, where we will have lunch. After lunch, we will take a small road to the ferry to Long Xuyen, where we will spend the night.
Day7
-Cycle 44 kms to Tri Ton, in the magical Seven Mountains area, a nice change from the flat delta countryside. After lunch, ride to the shrine of the Viet Nam 'Killing Fields' by Khmer Rouge invaders in April 1978 at Ba Chuc Village. Transfer either back to Sai Gon or to Chau Doc- the border town between Viet Nam and Cambodia ( for those who want to head out to Cambodia). The journey through the Delta to HCM City takes roughly a 5-6-hours, crossing the Australian My Thuan Bridge over the Mekong River. Sleep at a hotel in HCM City or in Chau Doc.
